On-going Programs: Tribes
The B’nai Or community is divided into five tribes. The B’nai Or membership hails from a wide geographic area; the tribes bring together people who live near one
another. Each tribe gets together socially a few times a year, and welcomes new members from its area. One Friday a month, there is a tribe assigned the mitzvah of
doing the set-up and clean-up for the service, plus providing food for the oneg shabbat.
Twice yearly, to celebrate Hanukkah and early Spring, the leadership of the community sets aside time for tribes to gather together. The first of these tribe
gatherings is usually scheduled to coincide with Hanukkah to celebrate this fun, and festive holiday, and to welcome new members. The second Tribe gathering is scheduled for sometime each
Spring.
If you don't know or are unsure of your tribe assignment, please contact Tribe Organizer Kathy Diamond (kathydia@comcast.net). Tribe membership
is also listed in the B'nai Or directory, which is updated to include all members every Fall.
Each tribe has one or more Tribe Coordinators who organize tribe events throughout the year. The Tribe Coordinator(s) also organize the Tribe members to host
Shabbat Services during the year. In addition, each tribe has a member who is the Tribe Chesed Liaison. This person serves to coordinate local help and support for
tribe members who are in need.
Any questions regarding B'nai Or Tribes, please contact Kathy Diamond (kathydia@comcast.net).
